About :
Medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) have been pivotal in traditional medicine and modern healthcare, offering therapeutic and aromatic benefits that enhance well-being. Historically, these plants have been integral to various cultures' healing practices, such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, providing remedies for numerous ailments. Modern advancements have validated many traditional uses and uncovered new applications, expanding their utility in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, aromatherapy, and functional foods. Additionally, the growing trend towards natural and organic beauty products has led to the widespread use of essential oils and herbal extracts in skincare and personal care items. Aromatherapy, leveraging the soothing properties of essential oils, has gained popularity for stress relief and emotional well-being. Farmers can diversify income by cultivating high-value MAPs, while SMEs can thrive by producing artisanal MAP-based products like essential oils and herbal teas. Countries rich in biodiversity, such as India and Brazil, stand to benefit from exporting these products to meet global demand. However, sustainable harvesting, ethical sourcing, and quality control are crucial to ensuring long-term viability and market success.
To address these issues and to deliver predominantly in research and development, a "National Seminar on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in Perspective of Health and Wealth" is being organized by MAPAI and ICAR-DMAPR, Anand during October 22-23, 2024.
